Maryse and Catherine, based in Rosemere Quebec, began their journey with TRAK in 2018. They added paddling to their relationship back in the year 2000 as they were looking for an activity that they could take on together from square one, whereas in most other sports one often had a head start above the other. Paddling combines their passions for travel, camping, fishing, and animal-spotting in a unique way that they hadn't experienced before.
Both ladies have backgrounds in STEM, specifically in biochemistry and marine biology, and so paddling creates a unique viewpoint into the natural world that has been such a large part of their lives. Exploring new waters, observing flora and fauna from the seat of their kayaks, and then finishing with a nice freshly caught supper and glass of wine is a perfect day to these paddlers.
As avid travelers, they chose the TRAK 2.0 for its versatility in matching their lifestyle. They've flown with their TRAK kayaks to Martinique and paddled them off of a catamaran mothership, and have since taken them across all of Canada as an integral part of their RV adventures.
Trust & Communication
Paddling is one avenue that facilitates greater trust and communication in their relationship, and an intimate knowledge of where the comfort zone for each other lies on the water. An incident while paddling the St. Lawrence river as newer paddlers was an eye opening experience that instilled the need for proper training and a better approach to the types of hazards that are always a factor on the water.
With some training under their belts, Maryse and Catherine are always in touch with how the other feels about the routes and conditions that they face together.
The world is their ocean!
Now, as seasoned paddlers, they have paddled some of the greatest places on Earth: Baja, Greece, and Vancouver Island to name a few. This year, in 2024, they'll be heading off to Dominica and then all of the way to Spitsbergen!
TRAK Kayaks leads camps and tours in many of these areas. If you and your partner are keen to take your paddling up a notch in bucket list locations, then check out our tours page for more information.
