The nature-island of the Caribbean Sea has sanctioned the region's only official sea trail, and the friendly people of Dominica are ready to host you along the warm West coast of Waitukubuli!
Waitukubuli is a Kalinago Carib word meaning “tall is her body”, and is one of the original names for the island nation of Dominica. The new sea trail has been appropriately dubbed as the “Waitukubuli Sea Trail”, and covers over 60km of stunning coastline dotted with colourful parishes and unspoiled ecology.
Spanning 14 segments from South to North, the trail incorporates comfortable accommodations and delicious island fare to keep you rested and refreshed, with land-based hiking excursions, river-surfing stoke, and local cultural examples to experience along the way.
The effort to sanction and define the new sea trail has been spearheaded by Weston Moses, a passionate kayaker who completed the first solo circumnavigation of the island in 2022. Weston and associates of his Soufriere Outdoor Centre will be guiding the inaugural expeditions along the sea trail beginning in January 2023.
TRAK Kayaks is leading the creation of an official field guide with the support of the Dominican government. The field guide will provide precise maps, route beta, and other resources to enable kayakers to explore this coastline at their own pace.
