Low Experience Pre-requisite / Moderate Focus on Skills Training
Embark on an unforgettable and empowering expedition with expert guide and Trak Pilot Alex LaLonde of Body Boat Blade. Over seven days, you will find yourself immersed in the beautiful San Juan Islands, following the pull of the moon as we travel from island to island with help of ocean currents.
We’ll take advantage of the TRAK 2.0’s unmatched portability and eliminate the need for any personal vehicles or kayak trailers on this expedition, allowing us to travel with a much lower carbon footprint - and more time on the water!
Don't own a TRAK kayak yet? We have TWO available for rent for this trip!
Set off with your boat and expedition gear from Anacortes to Friday Harbor via Washington State ferry and then weave your way back over the remaining paddling days. The ferry ride allows you to soak in breathtaking views of the surrounding waters and rugged coastline that we'll be exploring up close and personal in the days ahead.
Once you arrive in Friday Harbor, your kayak adventure truly begins. We will hitch a ride to San Juan County Park to start our paddling journey. From there, paddling back toward Anacortes, you will navigate through a labyrinth of islands, each offering its own unique landscapes and ecosystems. Multiple route options and calmer summer weather water make this expedition suitable for advanced beginner/intermediate paddlers. More advanced paddlers will find suitable challenges in the big tidal exchanges that happen in the tight island channels.
Both on and off the water, you will have the opportunity to explore secluded beaches, hidden coves, and spot the diverse flora and fauna that call these islands home.
Throughout the journey, Body Boat Blade’s experienced guides will provide skills coaching and opportunities to develop your personal skills. They will offer insights into the area’s natural history and cultural significance, enhancing your appreciation of this remarkable region. This expedition promises not only an exploration of stunning waterways but also an opportunity to create lasting memories amidst the breathtaking beauty of the San Juan Islands.
DAY 1: Meet Up at Body Boat Blade
Meet up with fellow paddlers at the Body Boat Blade compound, pack up equipment, and walk onto the ferry with kayaks and gear. Ferry to Friday Harbor, then taxi from ferry terminal to San Juan County Park for first camp. Put boats together, have dinner, and enjoy the view over the “Orca Highway”. Review plan for the trip.
DAY 2-5: Paddling Begins
Weave our way through the San Juan Islands while taking advantage of favourable currents, camping along the way.
DAY 6: Final Paddling Day
Last paddling day; finish in Anacortes where we will be picked up and brought back to the Body Boat Blade compound to wash and hang gear. Go to the local tavern, the “Brown Lantern” for dinner and celebrate the adventure.
“It was very exciting to be around such a culture of people and find myself on the open waters of the wild pacific coast with such an inviting and welcoming group, in these amazing high-performance kayaks. Never in my wildest dreams would those few basic skills that we learned on the first day, would progress to where we went today.”
— Chelsea Josue
“That was really fun. He just broke it down… It’s funny when you have someone take the time to go through things that might be natural. He broke down the surf process into little bitty pieces that made me way more comfortable. I would have never just dove in and done that on my own.”
— Natalie Kelly
We'll provide everything you need once the tour starts, until it ends. You may want to bring your favourite PFD, paddle, and your own TRAK kayak - if you have one.
